New in the Double Coat range: Bright White (DC 80000)

White is the most requested color in boat building and inland shipping. But which white is actually the whitest? Anyone who has worked with various Double Coat colors or other white variants knows that no shade is completely neutral, one leans slightly towards yellow, another towards blue.

We asked ourselves the same question and set out to find a serious answer.

Double Coat Bright White (DC 80000)

As of August 1, 2026, De IJssel Coatings is expanding the Double Coat range with a new white variant: Bright White, DC 80000. An addition we have not made lightly.

Bright White is the result of targeted color research conducted using the international CIE LAB color system the measuring method used in the coatings industry to objectively determine lightness and color cast.

Based on our own measurements, we consider Bright White to be the whitest white in our portfolio.

How do you measure white? The CIE LAB values explained

The CIE LAB system measures three values that together define the character of a color. The L* value indicates lightness: the higher it is, the brighter the color. The a* value indicates whether a shade leans towards red or green. The b* value indicates whether a shade leans towards yellow or blue. For the most neutral white possible, you want a high L* value and a* and b* values as close to zero as possible. Bright White scores the highest lightness of all measured variants. The a* and b* values remain close to zero, meaning the color barely shifts towards a warm or cool undertone.

What you need to know: preparation is key

A bright, pure white color places higher demands on the substrate. This also applies to Double Coat Bright White. On repaired areas or uneven surfaces, the topcoat may show through differently than usual. Not because the product is deficient, but simply because a bright color is inherently more demanding.

The approach is simple: after the epoxy primer, apply a coat of Tweecolor 100 white before finishing with Double Coat Bright White. This ensures the substrate is completely uniform and that Bright White delivers the expected results.

We explicitly mention this because, as a knowledge partner, we believe it is our duty not only to tell you what a product can do, but also what you need to achieve optimal results.

Who is Double Coat Bright White intended for?

Bright White was developed for professionals in boat building and inland shipping who consciously choose maximum brightness and color purity. For those who want white, just white, without a visible undertone.
